lauren nicole GRAND OPENING

Posted August 13th, 2012 by Leah and filed in Leah Richardson

Saturday was a wonderful day!!  Lauren’s Grand Opening for her boutique, lauren nicole, was precious to me in many ways!

My mom and dad, along with my sister, Eva Anne, came to be a part of the festivities and support Lauren.

Lauren’s mom, Cindy, on the left, drove down from Atlanta with her mom,

Sally, {Lauren’s “nana”} to show their love and support. Lauren’s aunt, Carrie, {not pictured} drove up from Sarasota to be a part of this fun day. We all celebrated Lauren!

Eva Anne and I walked down Woodland Blvd. with Lauren’s gift tote, creating interest and promoting lauren nicole.

Like I said…it was a wonderful day

as women shopped for stylish clothing and accessories in Lauren’s chic boutique! Lauren really created an inviting place to shop, which reflects her personality. You can shop with Lauren online at www.shoplaurennicole.com.

As I drove away, my heart overflowed with thanksgiving…

for indeed, every good and perfect gift does comes from above!

Remember the Bible study I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, STUCK. Here is a thought from it for you to ponder this week. Nothing will ever be perfect on this side of eternity. Lower your expectations and stop trying to obtain the impossible…then you will be surprised and delighted, even more thankful, for the little things that bring beauty and joy into into your life!

have a joyful week!

I thank God for you and all the blessings He richly gives us all.

STUCK

Posted July 27th, 2012 by Leah and filed in Word of Encouragement

Have you ever been STUCK? Whether stuck in an elevator, long line at the check out with all emptied on the conveyor belt, stuck with the only clean pair of jeans that make you look like a sausage casing or just stuck in your pursuit of living a life free from all the junk and stuff that has gathered around you to the point of feeling like you can’t move or breathe…STUCK!

My dear friend Marcy and I are doing Jennie Allen’s Bible study together, by phone, and it has touched some really STUCK places in me. Marcy and I are close to the same age but in different places in our life. Lauren is 28 and Sam is embarking on teenage-dom. It matters not age or stage, we all get STUCK. We all have places in our lives where we get STUCK.

Jennie starts out by asking you to identify three places that you feel most STUCK. When we take time to actually put a word to that STUCK place, God rushes in to help us get UNSTUCK! This study is taking me through some really messy places, even places I didn’t realize I was STUCK in!

The Bible tells me that God’s grace is sufficient for me. It is His grace that frees me, His grace that motivates me. That kind of grace changes everything…it gets me UNSTUCK.

STUCK places Jennie covers…broken, mad, discontent, scared, overwhelmed and sad. Working through those STUCK places has unearthed junk that I did not even realize was there! Areas of build up because I was not paying attention. STUCK in these STUCK places that were shaping my life more than I would like to admit!

At every turn Jennie turns me back to the Word of God and causes me to look up for help, to safely relax into the the arms of grace. I highly recommend checking out this study HERE. I am so thankful I have a sister/friend like Marcy, who I can be completely open and honest with about all the STUCK places where our amazing God wants to set me free. He wants to set you free too!

He who conceals his sins does not prosper,

but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Proverbs 28:13

Show each of us the STUCK places Lord, then teach us your ways and show us your path for our life…only you can truly set us free. Only you can help us stop filling those places with stuff and junk that will never truly satisfy, temporary stuff. No more days of coming up empty, fill us and free every STUCK place in us.

Enjoy your weekend and drink plenty of water…the dog days of summer are here!

seek FIRST…

Posted July 16th, 2012 by Leah and filed in Word of Encouragement

What is the FIRST thing you seek?_________________.

FIRST:  primary, before anything else, number one, utmost importance

What do you want FIRST of all?_____________________.

Who do you want to please, FIRST?________________________.

When you hear “put FIRST things FIRST“, what does that mean to you?____________________.

I wonder…does God peel away that FIRST thing in our lives so He will move up the ladder? Does He intentionally interrupt attaining that FIRST thing so we will clearly see Him…

His will, His ways, His timing, His…{it’s all His anyway- even that FIRST thing you named}!

Last week was a really tough week. I moved my parents into an apartment in a retirement/assisted living community. It was physically and emotionally draining, but God asked me to decrease so I put my parents’ needs above my own.

GOD. Others. me.

I’ll be the FIRST to admit that being third is hard sometimes. I can get so easily entangled and stuck in pursuing a comfortable life over pursuing God. I’ll be the FIRST to admit that I am about as weird and imperfect as one gets, but God knows my heart and my heart really desires seeking him FIRST.

Yesterday I realized that I am smack in the middle of watching God peel away more stuff… friendships, activities and a mind set that thinks I can sneak up to FIRST place sometimes and that is ok. I am crazy uneasy right now for He is doing a good work in my life. Where does this lead…I have no idea, but I have made Him a promise. I will follow.

But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness,

and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

Seek FIRST. When I start feeling uneasy like this, I usually start giving away stuff.  Time, money and stuff. But what if SEEKING GOD FIRST means living uneasy? Not living in spits and spurts, but a long life of uneasy? Years ago I went through a season where I learned to stop seeking to be FIRST and order my life according to God’s unfailing, effective and powerful Word. I learned that being third makes me FIRST in God’s eyes. I personally experienced how humility brings us full circle. He adds what we need and more. The test comes in round two…can we then give away the more we thought we so desperately needed and prayed for?

God stooped to put us FIRST. We are FIRST in God’s eyes. Is that enough? Maybe it’s time to stop chasing the American Dream {an illusion} and chase after God {who is real}.

GOD. Others. me.

None of us like to feel uneasy. Most everyone I know and associate with on a regular basis live very comfortably, yet find something to complain about. Company here not excluded. I know I discuss “editing” our lives on a regular basis, but what if we dig deeper and get more radical in our living.

He has my attention. He has so interrupted my life. Will he need to turn it upside down, again? We shall see…

What is your FIRST? really?

Some of you will read and delete without a second thought. But if God is stretching you to live uneasy or uncomfortable so he can show you true FIRST, be still and listen. Ask Him to tell you just where He wants you to take a radical step of faith…

“these things”…

Posted July 6th, 2012 by Leah and filed in Word of Encouragement

Have you ever allowed something negative in your life to distract you? Like an annoying fly that keeps returning to land on what you are working on…its goal is to stop the process, interrupt your thoughts and divert your attention.

Recently I called my spiritual mentor Ruth to discuss just such a matter, and she encouraged me to meditate on Micah 7:7.

But as for me, I will look to the Lord.

I will wait for the God of my salvation;

my God will hear me.

LOOK, with vision and great expectation for what the Lord is doing in His timing and His way. LOOK and WAIT. Not look and act, but look and wait. For those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. Strength to count every trial great joy knowing that God is refining and purifying lives. LOOK and WAIT BELIEVING GOD HEARS US. Believing God is working every situation out in our lives for the greater good. Believing that He indeed turns parched landscapes into pools of fresh water. Believing that a time of refreshing is coming.

What area of your life are you waiting for God to act? LOOK. LOOK and WAIT. LOOK and WAIT in total confidence that GOD HEARS YOU.

When we trust not in our own understanding, but commit ourselves to pursuing God until His presence is powerfully real in our lives, that pesky fly buzzing around our kitchen becomes inconsequential to the meal being prepared!

So while you wait, while I wait, let’s think positive. Think not about the difficulties, but think on “these things” –

Finally, brothers {and sisters}, whatever is TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is JUST, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is COMMENDABLE, if there is any EXCELLENCE, if there is anything WORTHY OF PRAISE, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS…PRACTICE THESE THINGS, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

This weekend, purposely replace every anxious thought by thinking on “these things”.  And remember, God waits too…for He awaits your response.

I just want to say that I love “doing life” together with you, my sisters! As we wait together on our huge and faithful God, know that I am praying for you…for strength and patience as God’s perfect will unfolds in your life. He loves you so…

No place I’d rather be…

Posted July 2nd, 2012 by Leah and filed in LR Ministries, Word of Encouragement

If I could pack a bag today, where would I go?  This week that’s an easy answer…New Orleans!  Wednesday is the 4th of July, which means Victory Fellowship Church will be “Feeding the Multitudes”!!  After Katrina devastated so many in NOLA, Pastors Frank and Parris Bailey acted on a nudge from the Holy Spirit and decided TO DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE and stop thinking about their own problems, challenges and set backs from the storm.

Still a good lesson and reminder today.

One of my fondest memories of serving…it was our last summer in New Orleans, we were moving back to Florida the following week. Jim served in the kitchen, feeding the people, and I washed their feet. Samaritan’s Feet generously donated hundreds of shoes for us to give away. But before we replaced the old and worn out, we washed away the dirt and grime. We touched the untouchable, loved the unloveable and prayed for the people. People who God created in His own image and likeness. People who God loves dearly. People who just needed a cup of water filled with compassion. People who needed someone to care, like Jesus cared.

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands,

and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

rose from supper.

He laid aside his outer garments,

and taking a towel, tied it around his waist.

Then he poured water into a basin

and

began to wash the disciples’ feet and

to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

John 13:3-5

When we KNOW who we are in Christ Jesus, we lay aside all that so easily entangles us in this world and care for those at arm’s length. Not from a far, but up close, personal.

What needs to be “Laid Aside” so you can serve, up close? Are you concerned about getting dirty? Will it ruin your manicure? Are you consumed with what others will think? You see serving like Jesus requires us to get up from the table of comfort. In the end, a neat and tidy life is an empty, fruitless life. What is God asking you to do? Do it. And do it with integrity for God is watching our every move. His eyes are upon us and he desires us to do what he has called us to do, regardless of how others perceive our actions.

He prepares a table in the wilderness, will we not willingly partake? Will we not  join him?

I sat on the floor, a very tall man sat in the chair in front of me. “I just want a pair of new shoes.” His request was simple, but I wanted to love him, like Jesus. After some urging, I removed his shoes. His toes were curled under and matted together. He wore shoes too old and too small. As I carefully washed away all that life had shamefully hurled at this man, I prayed. He wept. I broke the rules that day. He walked away with 2 pair of shoes. He seemed even taller, but maybe he just stood taller.

One day we will all stand before Jesus, as Judge. That is his deserved role, not mine. Until then, I am to respect the dignity of every human being by loving and caring for those Jesus places in my path. To “Lay Aside” my needs and serve another in real need.

There is no place I would rather be…right smack dab in the center of God’s will for my life. I’ll admit that oftentimes I understand not why I am there, but I will trust God. For truly, there is no place I’d rather be…

Happy 4th of July sweet friends! Make a memory you will never forget- serve another.
