New Orleans book signing at Source.
Thank you Terri McCormack and Evelyne Clinton of Source. in New Orleans for hosting my first “official” book signing for Interior Wisdom! What beautiful women…inside and out, and a beautiful shop! Evelyne escaped the camera each time, but I can assure you that both of these women have huge hearts and a great eye for design. Their website, Sourcenola.com says it all…”Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” ~William Morris~
THANK YOU AGAIN for your love and support! Remember…By Wisdom a house is built, through understanding it is established; and through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
Proverbs 24:3-4
If you are in New Orleans, stop by Source. for some of those rare and beautiful treasures…including my new book, Interior Wisdom: Designing your Home and Heart for the Lord.
Blessings Galore!

applying “Interior Wisdom” to a design question
Hello everyone,

For mutual encouragement, I’d like to answer the following question I received by email from Mollie, a First Grade Teacher in New Hope Alabama. Mollie wants to know how to incorporate ideas from my new book, Interior Wisdom, in her Master Bedroom. Her challenge is that she has green carpeting that she can’t change until her two teenagers finish college.
Mollie’s email brings up a common challenge we all face at times in our homes. We want to make changes and update our interiors, but other things, appropriately so, must take priority over a complete redo. Just last week I read a Design Trends article, and it stated that more and more homeowners are updating and remodeling their home in stages. That seems wise in this economy, especially since we are staying in our current homes over a longer period of time.
Unless your carpet is stained or worn out, green carpet can be a good base for a neutral interior. If you pull back the drapes or open the shutters, you will see that the foundational landscape around you is in the blue-green family too. Below I have listed some small changes that immediately update your room and help create a peaceful haven without spending a lot of money…

1. Paint gives you the most impact for the dollar. Choose a good neutral color like Manchester Tan by Ben Moore (HC-81) and paint the walls and trim.
2. Purchase some new lamp shades in a crisp white or cream. Take the lamps with you to insure you get the right shape and size.
3. Bless the local homeless shelter with your bedding and buy a simple, neutral coverlet, duvet, and throw pillows. The less pattern the more relaxing your bedroom will feel.
4. Edit-Edit-Edit!! You will find that I devoted an entire chapter in Interior Wisdom on editing our interiors. “Decluttering” (I don’t think that is really a word-yet a good word) will make a huge difference in any room of your home.
Attention to the little details will make a big difference in your home’s interior. Remember, a well-designed interior is a signal that someone carefully and thoughtfully considered all the little details. I am so thankful that God, our Grand Designer, takes the same approach with our interior life in His interior wisdom.
Thanks for writing Mollie and God bless all your efforts with Interior Wisdom!
Leah
